Racial Disparities Subcommittee

The Community Justice Council-Racial Disparities (CJC-RD) Subcommittee was formally created in January of 2014 to examine disproportionate minority contact in the criminal justice system. The subcommittee has examined disparities in many steps of the criminal justice system, including law enforcement contact, pretrial decision-making, and jail population. The subcommittee has worked closely with the Community Restorative Court (CRC) and is leading the CJC's work on the Community Court/Community Justice Center Initiative, among a wide range of other programs. CJC-RD manages a grant of $600,000 from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) for the creation of a Community Court. The Racial Disparities subcommittee also has a Community Court Advisory subcommittee within it to provide recommendations.
